Nadia Akbar, a Pakistani-American novelist, is a force to be reckoned with in the literary world. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Nadia holds degrees from Cornell University and the Graduate Creative Writing Program at the University of Arizona.
Her debut novel, “Goodbye Freddie Mercury”, was shortlisted for the Shakti Bhatt first book prize and has been lauded for its daring and profane look at politics, youth, and gender dynamics in Lahori society. Nadia’s bold fiction has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, the Mumbai Mirror, The Hindu, Gen-Y, and The Fourth Article magazines, cementing her status as one of the top South Asian female storytellers of her generation.
Challenge
When Nadia Akbar, a Pakistani-American novelist known for her bold and daring narratives, approached us at DEFQON, we were thrilled. Our task? To design a website that would serve as a digital home for her work and her voice. The goal was to create an online space that would reflect her unique storytelling style and her vibrant personality, while also being user-friendly and engaging.
Our Approach
Just like Nadia’s narratives, we wanted the website to be a journey for the visitors. We started by immersing ourselves in her work, understanding her voice, and identifying the elements that make her unique. We then embarked on a series of creative brainstorming sessions, which we like to call our “digital jam sessions”.
Result
DEFQON's Solution
We decided to make use of vibrant colors and bold typography to reflect Nadia’s dynamic personality and her daring narratives. We also incorporated interactive elements to engage the visitors and make their journey through the website a memorable one.
We created a dedicated section for each of her novels, complete with a synopsis, reviews, and a link to purchase the book. We also included a blog section where Nadia could share her thoughts, inspirations, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into her writing process.
To showcase Nadia’s accolades and media features, we designed an interactive timeline. Visitors can scroll through the timeline to see her journey as a writer, from her first publication to her most recent awards.
Result
The result is a digital home that truly reflects Nadia Akbar – bold, vibrant, and engaging. It’s a website that not only showcases her work but also her journey as a writer. It’s a space where her readers can connect with her and immerse themselves in her world .
